Organisations in the western Middle-earth

Heren Requain - Order of Knights is the official list of nobility in Gondor. All peers (condirath, rheinhirath and ereter) are knights of Gondor, but not all knights are peers. Six hundred knights, elders of their families, sit in the Great Council of Gondor.

Tirith Dolen - The Secret service of the royal house, a professional bunch of informers, spies and bodyguards. They are commanded by hîr Dostir Maldring, condir of Haerlond.

Uinendili (The Covenant of Uinen). The covenant that Maia Uinen established with Aldarion the Mariner in Númenor was originally concerned only with the protection, internal order, and well-being of the Guild of Venturers. When the King of Númenor dissolved the guild in II 1883, he made no attempt to nullify the bond between the Lady of the Seas and those of the Venturers who had remained loyal to him during the time of Mûrazôr's rebellion. So it was that Uinen continued to show favour to the line of Imrazôr, and gave protection to all those who became subjects to the Council of Pelargir. On a lesser and more parochial scale than the divinely-established royalty of Númenor (and later Arnor and Gondor), the Covenant of Uinen imbued the old Pelargirean League with a sacred character. Whereas submission to the authority of the priestly monarch was compulsory and essential to Númenórean identity, the friendship of Uinen was just that - a bond of love that could be chosen or rejected without peril to one's status as one of the Faithful. Within her own sphere, the Lady of the Seas could give aid to the exiled Dúnedain, and could invest the judgements of her chosen representative with her own native power of divine retribution. As political order of Gondor underwent far-reaching changes as a result of the actions of the Ship-Kings, the sphere of Uinen's influence narrowed to the boundaries of Dor-en-Ernil and the descendants of Imrazôr the Númenórean. The Uinendili are a fellowship that reveres Uinen and seeks her protection. Their grand master is, of course, the prince of Dor-en-Ernil.

Belguinarites (The Brethrens of Silence) - The Belguinar are fellowship of professional mourners and embalmers, an important aspect of Númenórean culture. They prepare bodies for their long rest, and keep the Houses of the Dead (Rath Dínen) in Minas Anor.

Order of Estë - The fellowship of surgeons and pharmacists, they are the keepers of the Houses of Healing in Minas Anor.

Tindóme-Lië (The Golden Dawn) - An esoteric philosophical society, open to both sexes, with a deep religious backing. Every new member must confess his trust in Eru Ilúvatar and the principles of the Faithful. The society is administratively organised into Grand Lodges that each govern their own jurisdiction, which consists of subordinate (or constituent) Lodges. Grand Lodges recognise each other through a process of landmarks and regularity. Tindóme-Lië is heavily interested in cosmology, metaphor and symbolism, of which the most important are the Tree of Life, the Star of Eärendil, the Flame Imperishable and the Trinity (Fëa, Hroa, Fana). Initiation to the mysteries of Tindómë-Lië happens in ten initiatory grades: I° - Novice, II° - Brother/Sister, III° - Adept, IV° Magician, V° Knight of the Eagle, VI° - Knight of the Two Trees, VII° - Knight of the Silmarils, VIII° - Commander of the Tribunal, IX° - Guardian of the Flame Imperishable, X° - Grand Master. Known lodges are named TRIBUNAL OF ARDA (Osgiliath), EÄRENDIL (Pelargir), CORMALLEN (Minas Anor), SECRET COLLEGIUM (Minas Ithil), LIGHT, LOVE, LIFE (Calembel), AURORA (Erech), IANT ANNÛN (Lond Galen), AMRÛNAUR (Imlad Carnen), EDLEDHIAD (Calmirië), NIGHT AND FOG (Umbar). Headquarters of the society are in Osgiliath; it's current grand master is Calimon Ascarnil, the argondhir.
