Seven Stars and one White Tree.
The emblem of Elendil and his heirs was seven eight-pointed (signifying kingship in Eldarin heraldry) stars, each representing one of the palantíri that Elendil brought from Númenor. In Gondor they were set on a sable coat of arms, together with the White Tree, which represented the seedlings of Nimloth that once grew in Armenelos. Seal of Gondor combines the white tree with typical square-on-lozenge-on-circle pattern.

Elendil himself used only his name, "L · ND · L" written in tengwar, as his badge and device upon his seals. The same letters were found in his battle flag, circled with eight stars. This flag of could also be used in inverted form, silver on sable. After Isildur buried his father's remains at Eilenaer (Amon Anwar) the name became so revered that no one dared to use it again. Letters L - ND - L have been since used to invoke Elendil's legacy and are seen in some dúnadan war banners, although this usage is controversial.

Arandur. In the same fashion, ruling stewards of Gondor never took any heraldic device of their own, and their banners are white with golden lining.
Personal flag of the Steward of Minas Anor showed the letters "R · ND · R" for Arandur ("King's servant"), surmounted by three five-pointed stars. Alternate Seal of Gondor, used by the Gondorian government in most official purposes, also has a white background.

Royal Flag. Meneldil son of Anárion, who had been left to govern Gondor for Elendil proclaimed himself as the sovereign King of Gondor in III 2, not wanting to acknowledge the claims of 13-year old Valandil to high kingship. Meneldil adopted the winged crown as the symbol of his reign in memory of his father, who wore winged helmet at the siege of Barad-dûr where he fell. The winged crown was added between the white tree and seven stars in his personal flag, which was subsequently adopted by most of Gondor's monarchs.

Royal War Banner is similar to royal flag: white tree, seven stars and winged crown on dark blue horizontal banner. Gondorian war banners are usually richly decorated and embroided with silver thread.

Royal Navy (Ceiriath Aran) uses seven stars of Elendil and an anchor as its device. Most Navy pendants and flags follow the same pattern, with certain distinctions: If king is onboard, a flag with seven stars, anchor and winged crown is used. Admirals may use one, two or three eight-pointed stars in their personal banners in stead of the crown. Navy ensigns are either ultramarine or azure blue with silver trimming, but navy flagships may use sable with silver.

All provinces and territories of Gondor have their own flags and devices. Flags of Anórien, Ithilien, Calenardhon, Lebennin and Anfalas are all artificial creations and surfaced during the administrative reforms of the Ship-Kings. Traditional symbol of Belfalas, white swan and white ship on azure, is derived from the nearby elf-haven of Edhellond where grey-elves serviced their ocean-going swanships during the Second and early Third Age. Coats of Lamedon and Dor Rhúnen reflect their native origins. White saltire in Lamedon's flag originates from an old dunael solar symbol used by the Oathbreakers. Dor Rhúnen's galloping white horse on azure is very common symbol among the Ehwathrumi northman tribes.

Provincial flags have seen some use in battle with the establishment of the Territorial Corps in Gondor. Provincial army units have their respecting colours in their regimental vexilla: Red and white for Anórien, sable and silver for Ithilien, green and silver for Calenardhon, azure and silver for Anfalas, gold and blue for Lebennin, gold and purpure for Harondor and azure for Lamedon and Dor Rhúnen.
